Please note some useful information for vessels calling at Gibraltar Port:

CALLING INSTRUCTIONS

  • Vessels are to call Gibraltar VTS on VHF Ch12 when about 2hrs from pilot station to receive initial instructions.
  • Gibraltar VTS will issue radio free pratique via Ch20.
  • Free pratique will be valid upon pilot boarding.
  • Gibraltar VTS will arrange pilot to Gibraltar Western Anchorage which is compulsory inbound only.
  • Upon arrival no further docs are required as we would of already obtained entry clearance from PFSO prior to vessels arrival.
  • Once anchored we will send via email port entry clearance issued by Gibraltar Port Authority as confirmation that vessel has been cleared to enter Gibraltar Port.
  • Position of pilot boarding – 1.25 WSW from Europa Point Lighthouse. (36o 06’N, 005o 22’W).
  • Pilot will make contact on CH12 once underway to vessel.
  • If inner anchorage is congested or bunker barge is not ready then vessel will be instructed to proceed to the drifting area – 8-10NM East Of Europa Point.
  • Please note vessels entry to the inner anchorage will not only depend on turn number but on vessel’s size, space availability and bunker barge readiness.

EU DIRECTIVE – BURNING OF LSMGO (MGO DMA 0.1%) WHILST AT PORT

  • Please note it is compulsory to burn LSMGO (MGO DMA 0.1%) whilst anchored at the commercial anchorage. Gibraltar port allow grace period of 2hrs from drop anchor time to do change over.

SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

  • For sailing there is no pilot or clearance papers needed.
  • Once bunker barge has casted off Master just needs to call Gibraltar VTS on CH12 to request permission to heave up anchor and sail to next port.
  • V Important – Please note port allow grace period of max 4 to 6hrs for vessel to sail from when bunkering has completed to allow for hoses to be dis-connected / paperwork formalities / barge to cast off / complete any other activities.
  • If grace period is not adhered to then port will charge full tonnage dues.

WORKING CHANNELS

  • Gibraltar Port working channels: CH12, 16, 20.
  • All vessels anchored or transiting within Gibraltar waters must have all working channels open at all times.

WHILST AT PORT

  • Vessels to have CH12, 16 & 20 open at all times. Gibraltar VTS will always make contact via CH12.

MARITIME FLAG

  • As Gibraltar is part of the UK any vessel calling Gibraltar Port can fly the UK MARITIME FLAG if GIBRALTAR FLAG is not available on board.

BUNKER SAMPLES

  • Please note following suppliers will accept bunker samples
  • AEGEAN
  • MACOIL
  • BOMINFLOT – Barge will accept, however please note they will not bring ashore. In order to dispatch we would need to arrange service boat to collect from barge and dispatch accordingly.
  • CEPSA – Do not accept bunker samples. If vessel needs to land then we would need to arrange service boat on completion of bunker intake.
  • PENINSULA – Do not accept bunker samples. If vessel needs to land then we would need to arrange service boat on completion of bunker intake.

BUNKER BARGE & PILOT BOATS

  • Neither bunker barge or pilot will convey any items to vessels.
  • Service boat will always have to be arranged to convey any items to vessel however small they might be.

SERVICE BOAT ALLOWANCE

  • When making orders or sending spares please note that maximum weight allowance for service boat to deliver is 3,000kilos.
  • If total combined order is over allowed limit of 3,000kilos then we would need to hire the services of the local stevedores.
